Adventure Takes Root at the DND Grounds Playground
The City of Vernon wanted a park that would challenge older kids, welcome younger ones, and include every ability. With funding from the Growing Communities Fund, the city replaced the old equipment at the DND Grounds Playground. As a result, the new playground opened in September 2024 among the site’s ball diamonds and sports fields. At its heart, a towering senior structure invites climbers to conquer the twisting Silo Scramble rope climber. Additionally, the Infinity Boomerang tests their balance, while crossing the Time Warp Bridge feels like stepping into another dimension! Because thoughtful playground design ties it all together, the park has become Vernon’s new favourite gathering spot.
Challenges for Ages 5-12
Kids Branch Out at the DND Grounds Playground
For kids ages 5 – 12, the senior structure offers climbing, balancing, and crossing challenges that build strength, coordination, and gross motor skills. Additionally, stepping stones link it to two junior structures, while whimsical leaf roofs and a rock climbing wall echo natural playground design. Younger explorers, meanwhile, race their friends down a double-wide slide made for two! They also muscle through an inclined crawl tunnel and build confidence on monkey bars, while activity panels engage their senses. Since the zones connect, siblings of different ages can play side by side. So, every child finds the right challenge without leaving the family behind.
Swing and Spin Together
Everyone Blossoms at the DND Grounds Playground
No child watches from the sidelines here. For example, a transfer station lets wheelchair users move from their chair onto the elevated play structure. At the same time, a multi-user swing gives friends a cozy spot to swing together, regardless of ability. Furthermore, the Revolution Inclusive Spinner makes room for wheelchair users, so kids of all abilities spin and laugh together! Meanwhile, parents and caregivers can relax in the picnic shelter and seating area, watching the action from a perfect vantage point. Ultimately, the DND Grounds Playground shows how inclusive playground design brings Vernon families together.
